Cambags helps photographers choose a camera bag using practical specifications, product and owner photographs, and the experiences of people who have carried the bags themselves.

How reviews and ratings work

Owner contributions can include written experience, equipment lists, photographs and optional ratings for comfort, features, build and price. The displayed score is the average of contributions that contain a rating. Because photographs and useful written contributions do not always include scores, the number of ratings can be lower than the number of owner contributions.

How the bag finder matches your kit

Camera-kit capacity choices are minimum requirements, not exact categories. Choosing one body and three lenses also finds bags recorded to hold two bodies and three or more lenses. Mixed carrying styles and features remain searchable under each of their tags.

Kit matches use recorded body and lens counts in either the capacity or In the bag specifications. A bag with its volume listed in litres can still match when its In the bag specification records a suitable kit. A singular DSLR or mirrorless camera with a stated lens count counts as one body. Additional lens counts are used conservatively; an attached lens is added only when the specification explicitly mentions it. Unknown counts, vague descriptions and litres alone are not treated as confirmed fits. Volume filters are separate and use the stated litre capacity or an estimate from exterior dimensions. The Drone choice also includes bags tagged for drones.

A recorded kit capacity is guidance, not a guarantee for every camera and lens. Check internal measurements and owner equipment lists, or use the 3D visualiser to assess your particular equipment before buying.

Find bags that fit your actual camera kit

The camera-kit finder searches every published bag using the existing visualiser's camera, lens and accessory definitions, orientations, collision checks and placement logic. You can select several bodies and lenses, optionally attach one lens to each interchangeable-lens body, and add listed accessories. Built-in lenses remain included in their camera measurements. Attached-lens checks assume compatible mounts; adapters, grips, detachable hoods and caps are excluded unless selected separately.

Complete dimensional layouts allow 5 mm effective divider clearance, without stacking, stretching or reshaping a bag. Distinct, source-checked auxiliary compartments can carry suitable accessories; their dimensions are not added together as one compartment. Alternative insert sizes and ambiguous spaces are never assumed to be separate usable compartments.

Confirmed fit means that every selected item has a verified non-overlapping arrangement in the dimensional model, using recorded, unambiguous camera-space dimensions without uncertainty flags. Independent source checking is not required for this calculated rating. Where access-opening measurements are missing, the opening is assumed to match the internal dimensions; recorded narrower openings are still respected. It does not mean a hands-on packing test or independently verified specifications. Likely fit means individual dimensions and total volume suggest room but a complete arrangement has not been found. Potential fit means measurements are missing, approximate or may describe the wrong compartment. Automated packing is a bounded heuristic: not finding an arrangement is not proof of impossibility.

New bags are considered immediately, without a separate index. Current internal specifications are used when available; checked visualiser corrections are reused only while the underlying catalogue measurements remain unchanged. Missing measurements stay explicitly unverified. The optional bag-brand dropdown defaults to All brands; choosing a carrying style, brand or required feature tags filters the results. Bags with multiple carrying-style tags match each of their recorded styles; choosing Case or Hard case does not include shoulder-only bags.

The shortlist initially shows complete Confirmed layouts without missing or approximate equipment measurements. Choose Include uncertain suggestions to also investigate Potential matches and Likely bags without a complete layout. Their omission from the default shortlist is not proof that your kit cannot fit. Cards show concise guidance and weight in grams; expand Fit details and capacity for the full explanation.

Best fit ranks compatibility ahead of lower recorded weight, appropriate internal space and the existing community popularity score, within your selected carrying style and other requirements. You can also sort by availability, popularity, review count, rating, weight, stated litre capacity, name or catalogue-added date. Available first groups currently available bags first, discontinued bags next and unknown availability last, preserving fit confidence within each group. Other sorts keep fit confidence first; unknown weights and litre capacities come last within their fit group. Always check manufacturer specifications and access openings before buying.

Archive contributions

Some contributions were preserved from the former Cambags website. They retain their historical public author names and dates and are labelled as archive contributions. They are not automatically linked to newly created accounts, and Cambags does not invent missing ratings or review text.

The default catalogue ranking combines approved review count (40%), average review score (30%), published and available owner photographs attached to approved reviews (20%), and recent activity (10%). Recent activity counts approved reviews posted and favourites saved in the last 90 days; it does not track page views or count moderator edits. Manufacturer and standalone product photographs do not count as owner photographs.

Counts have diminishing returns: each count is divided by itself plus 5 for reviews and recent activity, or plus 10 for photographs. The rating component uses the bag's rated contributions together with five virtual ratings at the site-wide average of approved ratings on public bags, then divides by 10. This reduces the advantage of a single perfect rating. Unrated bags receive no rating component; if the entire catalogue is unrated, the statistical prior is a neutral 5 out of 10. The displayed review average is unchanged.

Filtering does not change the scoring formula or site-wide rating average. Ties are resolved by review count, displayed average score, name and catalogue ID. You can still choose Most reviewed, Highest rated or another sort order; searches default to Best match unless you choose otherwise. Affiliate links and payments do not influence this ranking.

Moderation and corrections

New contributions are reviewed before publication. Moderation focuses on relevance, safety, spam prevention and protecting personal information rather than changing an owner's genuine opinion. Use the report control beside a contribution or contact Cambags to request a correction or raise a concern.
