I have an IBM T42 (14" screen) in the bag, with a 300D, 30D, Canon EF 50mm f/1.4 USM, 90mm f2.8, 18-55, Canon EF 70-200mm f/4 L USM, Canon BG-E1 , 420EX and a whole bunch of accessories in the bag. Check the specs to see if the 17" will fit, i take this when i travel internationally or for work.
The photo has captions for all items in the bag, except two: my laptop (an IBM T40), and the remote release (T-60N3 if I recall the model correctly) which is in the same slot as the off-camera shoe cord. What is also not quite visible in the picture is the Canon EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM which is attached to the 10D. The lens hood is on the lens but is reversed.
My bag weighs quite a bit but that just means that I've got lots of goodies... you can always lighten up a bit if necessary. Actually I have a camera body bag which I take when I'll be shooting with my standard Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L USM walk around lens. The bag is a Lowerpro Computrekker which deceivingly holds quite a bit if packed properly which is good for those that want to bring alot on a plane but are afraid of being asked to check it in. So long as you look strong with the bag, its size will prevent most from asking you to weigh it or anything. It helps to have a tiny laptop like the sony T series Vaio's. I'm actually capable of bringing on a few additional USB powered 80 gig external laptop hardrives (www.drivesolutions.com) that I use to watch movies and store all of the immense files that this 16.7 mpxl camera takes (especially when simultaneously taking Raw and large JPG files) If I wanted to push it I might even be able to fit 1 pair of Bose noise cancelling headsets but that definitely would be pushing it. Worst case scenario, put your headset around your neck and your wife's/ husband's when boarding.
